This Zootoca vivipara was shot in the department of Tarn, in southern France.

In the Pyrenees, this species is oviparous. Elsewhere in France, it is viviparous.

In 2011, Schmidtler and Böhme pointed out that though Von Jacquin used the name Lacerta vivipara, it was to report the fact that the species was viviparous, not to describe it. Therefore, the actual description of the species is attributed to Lichtenstein, who provided a description in 1823. See the following reference (click for pdf):
