updated 2018-01-27
Note on the update: I changed Pristimantis marmoratus to Pristimantis sp. Reference: Kok et al. (2018). I also added pictures in the Bufonidae family.

French Guiana houses 108 nominal species of anurans and 9 species of gymnophionas. I present on this page the list of the  species that are currently known to occur in this country. This list was made out of the following reference:

The taxonomy and nomenclature of Neotropical amphibians have changed in the last few years (in comparison with the list provided by Lescure & Marty 2000 for example). The checklist I give on this page takes into account these taxonomic changes. Still, the taxonomic situation of some amphibians of French Guiana is sometimes not yet resolved, and would need further studies.

Here is a list of references that I used for taxonomic updating:

I also regularly check the webpage "Amphibian species of the World 6.0, an online reference", and "amphibiaweb", the two best resources for worldwide amphibians on the web.

I will try to keep this page updated when new species are described and taxonomic revisions are published. All the photographs used to illustrate this list were taken on the field, during various field trips in French Guiana that I undertook since 1995. Some pictures are scans from slides, so the photo quality is not very good, others are digital photographs. Click on the picture to see it in higher resolution.

Thanx to Antoine Fouquet and Maël Dewynter for providing me with informations about the nomenclature and identification of some amphibians presented here.
