LIST OF AMPHIBIANS OF FRENCH GUIANA updated 2022-07-30 Note on the update: I added Leptodactylus fremitus and changed Pristimantis sp1 to Pristimantis crepitaculus. References: Carvalho et al. (2022) and Fouquet et al. (2022). French
Guiana currently houses 109 nominal species of
anurans and 10 species of gymnophionas. I present on
this page the list of the species that are known
to occur in this country. This list was made out of
the following references:
Boistel,
R.,
Massary,
J.-C.
de
and
Angulo,
A.
(2006).

I also regularly check the webpage "Amphibian species of the World 6.0, an online reference", and "amphibiaweb", the two best resources for worldwide amphibians on the web. I will try to keep this page updated when new species are described and taxonomic revisions are published. All the photographs used to illustrate this list were taken on the field, during various field trips in French Guiana that I undertook since 1995. Some pictures are scans from slides, so the photo quality is not very good, others are digital photographs. Click on the picture to see it in higher resolution. Thanx to Antoine Fouquet and Maël Dewynter for providing me with informations about the nomenclature and identification of some amphibians presented here. |
